Josef Steinhausen

Josef Steinhausen (born June 2, 1885 in Euskirchen , † October 31, 1959 in Sieglar ) was a German archaeologist .

After attending the Progymnasium in Euskirchen, he passed the Abitur in Münstereifel . He then studied Latin , Greek and history and received his doctorate. phil. He then worked as a teacher at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Trier . Some of his students are said to have been induced by his teaching to take up a relevant study, e. B. Leo M. Gard .

Steinhausen researched the archeology of the Trier region on a voluntary basis and published scientific papers on his research. For this he was awarded the seal of honor of the city of Trier in 1958. In Euskirchen the "Dr.-Josef-Steinhausen-Strasse" and in Trier the "Steinhausenstrasse" are named after him.
