Josef Tietz
Josef Tietz , also Joseph Tietz , actually Joseph Jacob Brandstätter , ( February 2, 1830 in Munich - August 27, 1906 in Leipzig ) was a German theater actor .
Life
Tietz, who had never had dramatic lessons, practically trained himself on various small stages. Barely 16 years old, he came to Reval and then to Altona , worked from 1849 to 1860 in Königsberg , Augsburg , Riga , Innsbruck etc. and in 1860 committed himself to the Victoria Theater in Berlin, where he remained until 1870. After that he worked at the Leipzig City Theater until his retirement in 1889 .
Tietz represented the subject of the character comedian and found effective use in both the classical and modern plays. His repertoire was extremely extensive. His most popular and successful roles included "Nansen", "Spiegelberg", "Zettel", "Schumrich", "Schmock", "Dr. Wasp ”,“ Stritzow ”etc. In all of these roles he always proved to be the intelligent, surely characterizing actor of theatrical taste and tact, and people enjoyed his performances full of warm-blooded life and the most effective nuances. Tietz had set up his retirement home in Leipzig, where he died on August 27, 1906.
Tietz 'father was the theater director and writer Friedrich Tietz (1803–1879).
