Josef von Bauer (born August 1, 1817 in Vienna , † August 11, 1886 in Purkersdorf ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician.

Life

After attending the Schottengymnasium, Josef Bauer studied law at the University of Vienna and obtained his doctorate in 1842. jur. and became a lawyer. He then worked as a court and court advocate. Since he was also interested in politics, he took the revolution of 1848 as an opportunity to apply for a seat in the Frankfurt National Assembly. This attempt failed at the first attempt, however, because he was only elected as representative of Joseph Freiherrn von Doblhoff-Dier for the constituency of Austria under the Enns in Baden . However, when he left the National Assembly on January 19, 1849, Joseph von Bauer replaced him as a member of parliament. However, he did not join any of the numerous parliamentary groups in the Paulskirche Parliament, but remained non-attached for the entire duration of his membership.

Returning to Austria after the dissolution of the National Assembly, Joseph von Bauer devoted himself to local politics alongside his job as a lawyer. From 1861 to 1886 he was a member of the Lower Austrian Landtag as an elected member of the Liberals for the constituency of Klosterneuburg . In 1869 he moved up to the state committee and was from 1870 the second representative of the land marshal . Bauer was active in the creation of the land register law, water law and various river regulations, he made a contribution to the construction of the Tulln Danube bridge . In his private life he was also interested in regional studies. Therefore, he was a member of the board of the Association for Regional Studies of Lower Austria . In 1881 he was knighted . From 1889 Bauer was also a correspondent for the kk Central Commission .
