The Ostseestaal GmbH & Co. KG is a metal-processing company based in the German city of Stralsund . The company belongs to the Dutch group of companies Central Industry Group based in Groningen .

Ostseestaal manufactures kits from cut and three-dimensionally formed sheet metal made of steel , stainless steel , aluminum and special alloys for shipbuilding and the metalworking industry. It is one of the large maritime supplier companies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Started as a supplier to the maritime industry, the work for “classic shipbuilding” only took around 25 percent in 2010; new business fields are architecture , alternative energies and mega yachts .

On March 4, 2000, the company started production with two plasma cutting systems and seven large presses; the Dutch company Centralstaal had invested 25 million euros in building the Ostseestaal GmbH . In the founding year 2000 the company had a turnover of 3.1 million euros. In 2005 a former workshop of the neighboring Volkswerft Stralsund was bought. In addition, the Stralsund company AIU built an industrial hall measuring 99 × 155 meters with 17 crane systems for different load levels.

Together with the University of Stralsund and the University of Rostock , the company is developing a process for the multi-dimensional deformation of steel elements at higher temperatures in a project worth 5.6 million euros. From 2013 onwards, steel rotor blades for wind turbines will be manufactured in a globally innovative forming process in the warm to warm temperature range , which the company believes could replace the plastic rotor blades previously used.

The independent company Modul- und Formbau (MFB) Stralsund was founded to produce molded parts for the aircraft industry. The company uses a production hall of the former Luftfahrzeug-Gesellschaft (LFG) shipyard in Stralsund. The further production of the components was carried out by the subsidiary Formstaal GmbH & Co. KG until the end of 2017 , which has also been operating under the name of Ostseestaal GmbH & Co. KG since 2018 . The restructured company now has around 150 employees. In 2019, the subsidiary Ostsee Tank Solutions GmbH was founded for the production of roofs for large tanks .

credentials

In the company, among other things, the steel sheets for the outer facade of the Ozeaneum Stralsund , for the research ship Maria S. Merian and elements for the Sidra Tree of the Qatar National Convention Center were formed. In 2010, components were deformed and delivered for 60 percent of the company's mega yachts. Steel was also supplied for the Porsche pavilion in Wolfsburg . The company also supplies the aviation industry with parts for the Eurofighter and the Airbus A 350 . For the Infoversum in Groningen , the construction segments from Corten were delivered in 2013 .

An in-house development is a fully solar- powered water bus called Solaaris , which has been running on the Aasee in Münster since 2012 . Solar-powered ferry boats were built in cooperation with Formstaal for the White Fleet shipping company , which the company uses on ferry routes operated by the Berlin transport company (see FährBär ).
