Josefskapelle (Königheim)
The Roman Catholic Joseph Chapel in Königheim in the Main-Tauber district was built in 1888.
history
Around 1880 the Eiersheim shepherd Georg Michael Herbert made a vow during a terrible storm. He wanted to make a donation to enlarge an older, small chapel. Some time later, a few benefactors from Königheim joined them, who had heard of the donation and also decided to make a donation. Construction of the chapel could now begin in 1888. On September 8th, it was inaugurated by Dean Eckert. As with the old chapel, St. Joseph became the patron saint of the new chapel. In 1900 the municipality of Eiersheim , a district of Külsheim , was entered in the land register as the owner . However, the last renovations were initiated and carried out by the parish of Königheim.
The Josefskapelle belongs to the pastoral care unit Königheim, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
location
The Josefskapelle can be found at the end of Langenfeld in Königheim, on the edge of the Königheim nature reserve and the Haigergrund nature reserve.
Furnishing
The picture of Our Lady of Sorrows was transferred from the old to the new chapel. However, the valuable statue of Joseph was housed in the rectory in Königheim for theft reasons. Today you can only look at a cheaper replacement figure there. The three parishes take turns organizing the event.
Star pilgrimage
Every year, the star pilgrimage leads pilgrims from Eiersheim, Dienstadt and Königheim to the Joseph Chapel for a common prayer. This event takes place on the third Sunday in May every year.
