Joseph Alois Fink , also Josef Alois Fink , (born April 20, 1796 in Andelsbuch ; † October 31, 1845 there ) was an Austrian bookbinder , mechanic and inventor .

Life and work

Fink was born in Andelsbuch in the Hub parcel and learned the bookbinding trade . However, this job could not support him adequately in the Bregenzerwald and he and his family were impoverished throughout his life. Around 1822 he founded a family and had two daughters with his wife and their son Johann Jakob (d. 1857), who later became a teacher.

Fink comes from the family that later became the Austrian Vice Chancellor Jodok Fink . Fink was also a direct neighbor of Josef Feldkircher .

As a publisher, Fink brought out the popular main work by Father Giles Jais from the Benediktbeuern monastery at his own expense : “ Good seeds on good soil; a textbook and prayer book together with a little house book for well-meaning Christians, especially for the dear country folk, ”which, however, prevented him from solving his financial problems.

Fink is buried in the Andelsbuch cemetery.

Tellurium

Without having attended secondary school, Fink constructed the mechanical replica and representation of the movement of the earth around the sun and the moon around the sun on the basis of his own observations and the astronomical information in folk calendars , some of which he bound in his bookbinding workshop in Andelsbuch, until around 1839 Earth and with all phases of the moon. Also, with this Tellurion the solar and lunar eclipses for centuries are presented.

This invention by Fink was recognized by experts because of the precision and simplicity of its representation, but it did not bring him the desired financial success and he was only able to sell a few pieces at a profit.
