Joseph Clauder

Joseph Clauder , also: Clauderus (born August 27, 1586 in Moßbach ; † October 5, 1653 in Altenburg ) was a German Protestant theologian, hymn composer and poet.

Life

He enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on June 19, 1607 and obtained his master's degree on March 23, 1613 . He then went to Neustadt an der Orla as vice rector and then became school rector in Altenburg , where he last worked as archdeacon and died. The publisher Christian Friedrich Wilisch (1704–1684) has included his Oratio de horrida superioris pontficiae et florida excultaque nostrae lutheranae aetatis latinitate in the Jubila Altenburgensia .

There are also several Latin poems by him. For example De Spiritu Sancto , which earned him the honor of an imperial crowned poet . The song Oh Lord God , which is a German translation from Latin, also goes back to him. The Thuringian theologian Johann Sebastian Mitternacht described his life .

His son Gabriel Clauder was a doctor and alchemist.
