Joseph Crescent McKinney (born September 10, 1928 in Grand Rapids , † June 9, 2010 ) was auxiliary bishop in Grand Rapids .

Life

Joseph Crescent McKinney studied at the Séminaire de Philosophy of the University of Montreal and at the Roman Pontifical Urban University (Collegio di Propaganda Fide) . After graduating, he received the sacrament of ordination on December 20, 1953 in the chapel of the Collegio di Propaganda Fide . Until 1962 he worked at the St. Joseph Seminary. From 1962 to 1968 he was a pastor in Indian River, Mount Pleasant and Conklin.

On July 24, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Leontium and ordered him auxiliary bishop in Grand Rapids. The Archbishop of Detroit John Francis Dearden donated him episcopal ordination on September 26 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Allen James Babcock , Bishop of Grand Rapids, and Charles Salatka , Bishop of Marquette . He was Rector of the Cathedral of St Andrew in Grand Rapids and Vicar General in the Diocese of Grand Rapids for 33 years ; he has also served on numerous commissions across the United States.

On October 3, 2001, his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II for reasons of age .
