Joseph De Grasse
Joseph Louis De Grasse (born May 4, 1873 in Bathurst , New Brunswick , Canada , † May 25, 1940 in Eagle Rock , California , USA ) was a Canadian actor and film director . De Grasse was one of the founding members of the Motion Picture Directors Association in 1915 , along with Maurice Tourneur , John Ford and others .
Life
Born in Canada, De Grasse first worked as a journalist before turning to theater and becoming an actor. In the early 1910s, De Grasse made his first films as an actor for Pathé . In 1914, De Grasse, whose younger brother Sam De Grasse had followed him to the United States and also worked as an actor, moved behind the camera as a director. In the production of his first film as a director, the romance Her Bounty , De Grasse worked for the first time with his future wife, the screenwriter and director Ida May Park . By 1917, De Grasse directed almost all of the scripts Park wrote. In the mid-1920s, De Grasse's career as a director came to an end and he began working again.
Joseph De Grasse, the uncle of cameraman Robert De Grasse , has directed more than 80 films and has appeared in more than 20 productions as an actor.
