Joseph Dosu (born June 19, 1973 in Abuja ) is a former Nigerian soccer goalkeeper . He participated in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

Club career

Dosu started his career in the youth division of Julius Berger FC in Lagos . After his promotion to the first team, he won the Nigerian FA Cup with Julius Berger FC in November 1996. Following this success, he signed a contract with AC Reggiana in the Italian Serie A . However, he was unable to fulfill this contract because he was involved in a serious car accident in Lagos in 1997. Because of this accident, he had to end his career at the age of 23.

International career

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he was the only Super Eagles player who was still playing for a Nigerian club. He was the first goalkeeper on the Olympic team. After the Olympic Games, he came to three appearances in the national team. In November 1996 he was goalkeeper in the 2-0 qualifying victory for the 1998 World Cup against Burkina Faso . In December 1996 he played in a friendly against Morocco . In January 1997 he was again in the squad for the national team in the qualifying game against Kenya , which ended 1: 1. The game was his last for the national team.

Career as a coach

In 2009 Joseph Dosu was introduced as head coach at the Belgian Westerlo Football Academy in Lagos. Westerlo has been running a football academy in Lagos since 2008 in cooperation with the Julius Berger Nigeria PLC Group.
