Joseph Fiertmair
Joseph Fiertmair (born February 18, 1702 in Schwandorf ; † June 24, 1738 in Rottenburg am Neckar ) was a German late Baroque painter , Jesuit brother and a pupil of Cosmas Damian Asam .
Life
Joseph Johann Fiertmair (also Firtmair) was born in Schwandorf on Feuerhausgasse as the son of the grinder Josef Michael Fiertmair and his wife Barbara. The family later moved to Prague. In 1723 he entered the Society of Jesus as a lay brother.
Services
Cosmas Damian Asam recognized his talent and took him into his workshop together with Christoph Thomas Scheffler . During the execution of the ceiling paintings by the master in the monastery churches of Aldersbach, Metten and Weingarten, the parish church of St. Jakob in Innsbruck and in the cathedral in Freising, the young Fiertmair received great suggestions and excellent training for his later work.

- Kapellenkirche Rottweil Frescoes of the church renovation around 1733 (Marienlob), altar leaves and various paintings in the associated Jesuit college. The self-portrait shown above is part of a nave fresco “The Wedding of Mary” - Fiertmair, as “altar boy”, secretly extinguishes the burning candle.
