Joseph Frosch , actually Christian Frosch, (* March 2, 1733 in Ebernhahn , † January 15, 1802 in Marienstatt ) was the 45th abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt.

Live and act

Frosch grew up in Ebernhahn near Wirges and received the Minores in 1753. For sub-deacon , he was in 1754 and a deacon ordained 1755th He was ordained a priest on June 4, 1757. He was in the Abbey of Cellerar and as such he was appointed Cellerar in Rhein-Metterich. On September 14, 1784 he was elected abbot in Marienstatt and confirmed by the abbot of the Heisterbach monastery (mother monastery). On November 21, 1784, he was given by Auxiliary Bishop Karl Aloys von Koenigsegg-Aulendorf in Cologne the benediction .

The coalition wars made it necessary for the abbot and convent to move to the Arienheller monastery courtyard . It was only when an imperial hussar regiment was billeted in Marienstatt that Abbot Joseph and the convent returned to Marienstatt (December 27, 1792). In the following years, too, Marienstatt suffered from the armed conflicts. The monastery was used as a military hospital (until January 1797) and was sacked by French soldiers in October 1795 and June 4, 1796. Again and again the monks had to leave the Marienstatter valley to seek protection. Frosch died on January 15th, 1802. In the same year the Marienstatt Abbey was closed. His successor Dominikus I. Conrad was still elected, but could no longer be assigned.
