Nguyễn Thị Huyền (born May 19, 1993 in Nam Định ) is a Vietnamese sprinter and hurdler who specializes in the 400-meter distance .

Athletic career

Nguyễn Thị Huyền gained his first experience in international competitions at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Palembang . There she won the bronze medal in 3: 45.03 min with the Vietnamese 4 x 400 meter relay behind the teams from Thailand and Indonesia and took fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.73 s. The following year she won the Junior Asian Championships in Colombo in 59.92 s and thus qualified for the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was eliminated with 62.01 s in the lead. In 2013 she took part in the Asian Championships in Pune , where she finished fifth in 61.68 s. At the Southeast Asian Games in Naypyidaw she reached the final, but did not take part in the final run, but won the silver medal behind Thailand with the relay with a new national record of 3: 36.92 min. In 2014 she took part for the first time in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , where she finished seventh in the 400-meter run in 53.79 seconds and fifth in the relay in 3: 33.20 minutes. In 2015 she won the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in 52.00 s over 400 meters and in 56.15 s over 400 m hurdles and also won the gold medal with the relay with a new player record of 3: 31.46 minutes. She qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the hurdles with 57.31 s in the first round .

In 2016 she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was eliminated there with 52.97 s over 400 meters and in the hurdles with 57.87 s in the preliminary round. In 2017 she won the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 56.14 s in the hurdles and originally won the silver medal behind India in 3: 33.22 min. However, the Indian team was stripped of the gold medal for a doping offense and the gold medal was awarded to Vietnam. At the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur , she repeated her success from 2015 and won three gold medals and also set a new Vietnamese record in the hurdles with 56.06 seconds. After having barely competed in 2018 and 2019, she returned to age class in December 2019 with a victory at the Southeast Asian Games in 52.80 s over 400 meters and in 56.90 s in the hurdles.

In 2013, 2017 and 2019 Nguyễn became Vietnamese champion in the 400-meter hurdles and in 2017 and 2019 also over 400 meters.
