Life

At the age of 17 Jansen moved to Düsseldorf. There he studied painting at the Royal Prussian Art Academy . From 1847 to 1850 he was a student in Johann Wilhelm Schirmer's landscape class . Study trips first took him to landscapes on the Rhine and Moselle , and later to the Swiss and Bavarian Alps . From 1850 he exhibited in various German galleries, from 1870 at the Berlin Academy exhibitions, and 1872 in Vienna. Kaiser Wilhelm I bought his painting Oeschinensee in the Bernese Oberland in 1880 .

Jansen married the landscape painter Luise Siebke (1835–1912), who had initially been his student. Her daughter Emilie († 1918), born in Düsseldorf in 1871, became a flower and still life painter. Jansen was a member of the Malkasten artists' association . In Düsseldorf he was registered at Adlerstrasse 72 in 1889.
