Joseph Joesten

Heinrich Joseph Joesten (born June 21, 1850 in Düren , † September 25, 1909 in Bonn ) was a German civil servant and writer .

Life

Joesten studied law at the universities of Bonn and Berlin and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. In 1877 he became a court assessor at the Royal City Court in Berlin, and in 1879 a government assessor for the railway company in Elberfeld. From 1893 he lived in Cologne, where he was deputy chairman of the newly founded "Literary Society" and regional chairman of the "German Writers' Association for the Rhineland".

In 1898 he retired and moved to Bonn , where he shot himself for unknown reasons in 1909.

He emerged as a poet and biographer as well as with literary and cultural-historical writings.

family

Joesten was married to Amalie Freiin von Nesselrode-Hugenpoet. Their son was the writer and journalist Joachim Joesten (1907–1975).
