Joseph Julius Czermak (born June 2, 1799 in Prague , † March 14, 1851 in Vienna ) was an Austrian doctor, physiologist and anatomist.
Son of a respected doctor in Prague , he studied medicine in Prague and Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1823. In 1825 he temporarily took over the chair of physiology and higher anatomy at the University of Vienna . In 1827 he was appointed full professor there. His main field of work was comparative anatomy. During this time Nikolaus Lenau attended his lectures. In 1828 he worked in Paris. In 1848 he was removed from his position as a professor and went back to Prague, where he soon enjoyed a great reputation as a general practitioner. He was the family doctor for the Hanslick family .
