Joseph Olshan

Joseph Olshan (born April 6, 1958 in New York City ) is an American writer .

Life

Joseph Olshan is the son of Marvin L., a lawyer, and Malchia Olshan, née Sandford. He attended from 1974 to 1976 the University of Vermont and then until 1978 the University of California, Santa Barbara , where he received his bachelor's degree . He moved to Los Angeles , where he read scripts for Jerry Leider Productions , EMI Films and other production companies, among others . From 1981 until 1984 he worked as a freelance journalist. After teaching creative writing in New York City for a year in 1985, he was a lecturer in the same capacity at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and again at New York University from 1987 to 1988 .

Olshan won the Times / Jonathan Cape Young Writers Award in 1985 for his debut novel Clara's Heart . The novel was published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch under the title Clara's Heart in 1988 and was filmed under the title Clara 's Secret with Whoopi Goldberg , Michael Ontkean , Kathleen Quinlan and Neil Patrick Harris in the leading roles. From 1992 to 1994, Olshan was a literary critic for the Wall Street Journal .
