Joseph R. Brennan (born November 15, 1900 in Brooklyn , New York , † May 10, 1989 in New York ) was an American basketball player who was one of the best players in the early US leagues of this sport in 17 years as a professional has been. Brennan was active as an athlete for at least six teams in four different leagues between 1919 and 1936, sometimes simultaneously. He won various championship titles and awards as the best basket hunter. In 1975, Brennan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for career achievement .
Career
Joseph R. Brennan moved straight from high school to a professional team in 1919 . The team of the Brooklyn Visitations he remained loyal to his career and played there continuously until 1936. With the Visitations he won the championship of the American Basketball League three times , in 1929, 1931 and 1935. In the Metropolitan Basketball League , in which the Visitations before 1927 competed, Brennan was the top performer of the team in 1922 the best basket hunter of the season.
After retiring from active sports in 1936, Brennan moved to college teams as a coach. As a player, as a coach, he managed to end every season of his career with a positive record of wins and losses. Brennan's most successful time as a coach was from 1941 to 1948 at St. Francis College . In seven years he led the team to a total of 96 wins and 46 losses.
Others
A high point in Brennan's playing career was a victory by the Brooklyn Visitations against the Original Celtics in 1925. At that time, the Celtics were considered almost invincible and Brennan recorded the decisive basketball success in the game at the end of the game.
Even during his playing career, Brennan worked part-time as a banker. After his coaching career, he became the director of a bank in Brooklyn.
