Joseph S. Ammerman

Joseph Scofield Ammerman (born July 14, 1924 in Curwensville , Clearfield County , Pennsylvania , †  October 14, 1993 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1977 and 1979 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Ammerman attended Curwensville High School until 1942 . Between 1943 and 1946 he served in the US Army during World War II . He then continued his education until 1950 at Dickinson College in Carlisle , where he studied law, among other things. After being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. He also got into banking and became president of a bank. Between 1954 and 1961 he was a District Attorney in Clearfield County; from 1961 to 1963 he served as the federal attorney for the western district of Pennsylvania. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In July 1952 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago ; from 1970 to 1977 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate .

In the 1976 congressional election , Ammerman was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 23rd  constituency of his state , where he succeeded Republican Albert W. Johnson on January 3, 1977 . Since he was not confirmed in 1978, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1979 . Between 1986 and 1993, Ammerman was a judge on the Clearfield County Court of Appeals. He died on October 14, 1993 in his hometown of Curwensville.
