Albert W. Johnson

Albert Walter Johnson (born April 17, 1906 in Smethport , McKean County , Pennsylvania , †  September 1, 1998 in Boca Raton , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1977 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Johnson attended Smethport High School until 1923 . Between 1926 and 1929 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania belonging Wharton School . In 1933 and 1934 he was a member of the Smethport Town Council. After studying law at Stetson University in DeLand and being admitted to the bar in 1939, he began working in this profession in Smethport. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1947 and 1963 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . During this time he temporarily led the Republican faction.

After the death of MP Leon H. Gavin , Johnson was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election for the 23rd seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 5, 1963. After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1977 . During this time, the Vietnam War , the civil rights movement and 1974 the Watergate Affair took place . In 1976 he was not re-elected.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Albert Johnson no longer appeared politically. He died on September 1, 1998 at the age of 92 in Boca Raton.
