Joseph Schaffner

Joseph Schaffner (born March 21, 1887 in Padling , † January 21, 1966 in Munich ) was a German politician (SPD).

Live and act

After attending elementary schools in Hunding, Plattling and Deggendorf from 1893 to 1901, Schaffner completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith by 1903. In addition, he attended the advanced training school in Deggendorf and Gefrees. In the following twelve years he practiced his profession in different parts of Germany, most recently in Nuremberg .

From 1915 to 1918 Schaffner took part in the First World War, in which he fought on the Western Front . After the war he became party secretary and later chairman of the SPD in Hanover. From 1921 to 1925 he was a member of the Hanover Provincial Parliament . From 1919 to 1923 he was also a member of the district executive committee of the SPD in the Hanover district.

From December 1924 to July 1932, Schaffner was a member of the SPD for constituency 16 (South Hanover-Braunschweig) in the Reichstag .

During the Nazi era, Schaffner was briefly held at least once as a protective prisoner in a concentration camp. After the Second World War he lived in southern Germany.
