Joseph Schmidt-Görg

Joseph Schmidt-Görg (born March 19, 1897 in Rüdinghausen / Westphalia , † April 3, 1981 in Bad Neuenahr ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Schmidt-Görg (aka Schmidt) was professor of musicology at the University of Bonn from 1948 to 1965 . He was a student of Ludwig Schiedermair and his long-time research assistant both at the musicological seminar in Bonn and at the archive of the Beethoven House in Bonn , which he took over from Schiedermair in 1945. He held this position until 1972. He is the founder of the Beethoven Complete Edition, which is based on 56 volumes.

Schmidt-Görg is the father of the musicologist Hans Schmidt and the grandfather of the composer and church musician Gereon Krahforst .
