Sieghard Brandenburg

Sieghard Brandenburg (born January 21, 1938 in Bad Frankenhausen ; † December 18, 2015 in Galmsbüll near Flensburg ) was a German musicologist who stood out in particular as a Beethoven researcher.

Life

Brandenburg studied music ( oboe major ), musicology and mathematics at the Freiburg University of Music and at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , later musicology, mathematics and modern history at the University of Bonn . In 1968 he became a research assistant at the Beethoven Archive in Bonn and in 1984 director of the Beethoven Archive. He held this post until his retirement on January 31, 2003. One of his most important projects was the publication of Ludwig van Beethoven's correspondence , which appeared in seven volumes from 1996 to 1998.

In 2000, the Berlin University of the Arts  - today's University of the Arts - awarded him an honorary doctorate at the suggestion of Rainer Cadenbach .

After retiring, he moved to the small town of Galmsbüll in North Friesland , where he died in 2015.
