Joseph Stone (screenwriter)
Joseph Stone (* 19th April 1914 in Carstairs , Alberta ; † 5. October 2001 in Bellingham , Washington ) was a Canadian-American screenwriter , Box - arbitrator and professor of English.
Life
Born in Canada, Stone moved his family to California when he was a baby . He started boxing in Los Angeles and started a career as an amateur boxer. During World War II , he served in the United States Navy , working in San Diego on developing an exercise program for soldiers. From 1942 he was active as a referee in boxing matches. At the same time he pursued an academic career and studied at Loyola Marymount University , where he also taught English from the early 1940s. After the end of the war, he earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California. In 1994 he was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame for his performance as a referee.
From the 1950s to the 1960s he worked as a screenwriter for Universal Studios and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . His focus was on television series. One of his few films is Company Petticoat . He often worked with the screenwriter Paul King . From 1963 he turned back to his academic activities, in 1979 he retired.
For his involvement in the script development for the film company Petticoat , he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Original Screenplay in 1960 .
He was married and the father of several children.
