Joseph Würschmidt

Joseph Michael August Würschmidt (also José Würschmidt ; born February 5, 1886 in Bayreuth ; † July 6, 1950 in Yerba Buena , Argentina ) was a German physicist .

Life

After studying physics in Munich and Erlangen, he obtained his doctorate in 1909 under Eilhard Wiedemann . From 1911 he worked as a private lecturer, from 1916 as an associate professor at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen . On July 5, 1919, he was appointed a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Also in 1919 he switched to the Free University of Commerce, Industry and General Education in Nuremberg as a professor . In 1924 he was still an associate professor of physics at the University of Cologne , before following the call of Richard Gans , director of the physical institute at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata , to Argentina and from 1925 director of the physical institute at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán has been. In 1949 he was appointed president of the university before he died on July 6, 1950.
