Prince Franz August Wilhelm zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (born August 11, 1778 in Berleburg ; † July 14, 1854 there ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Franz August Wilhelm was a member of the noble family of the Prince Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg . His parents were Christian Heinrich zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (1753-1800) , who was prince in 1792, and Countess Charlotte Friederike Franziska von Leiningen-Westerburg-Grünstadt (1759-1831). August Ludwig zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was his younger brother. Franz did not enter into a marriage and left no children behind. When in 1834 his eldest brother, Prince Albrecht zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg at Rothschild Bank in Frankfurt a mortgage of 300,000 guilders on real estate and pensions recorded (three times the annual income), Franz August Wilhelm joined the debt and deposit prescription with the other agnates of the Princely House. The loan had four percent interest, the interest should be paid semi-annually, the repayment of the loan should begin after 10 years and then be completed after a period of 41 years.

Career

Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg studied at the University of Marburg in 1793 and at the University of Göttingen in 1795 .

In 1799 he was in Austrian service as a second lieutenant in the cuirassier regiment "Nassau" No. 9. He took part in the campaign against France , took part in the battles near Ostrach, Liptingen, Winterthur, Zurich, Stockach, Neuhaus, Schaffenhausen, Nördlingen, Salzburg and Krems as well as the Battle of Hohenlinden and received his departure from Austrian services in 1801 .

In 1805 he entered the Russian service as staff assistant and fought in the Battle of Austerlitz and the battles near Braunau and Hollabrunn during the Third Coalition War . In 1807 he changed as a major in Nassau services . He then became a real major in 1811 and took part in the Iberian campaign . Here he fought in the battles near Salamanca , near Vitoria where he was wounded, near San Sebastián and Pamplona , also in the battles near Villa nueva de los Infantos, Penias St. Piedro, Manzanares , Canules las Rosas near Madrid, on the Tagus and at Bayonne. In 1814 he received his farewell.

In 1818 he entered the Prussian service as a major and was aggregated to the 25th Infantry Regiment . He was recruited as a budget officer in 1819. In 1823 he received his farewell again, but as a lieutenant colonel and with permission to wear the regimental uniform of the 25th Infantry Regiment. In 1830 he was a leader of the second levy of the Landwehr Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment use, received the 1841 character as a colonel and was released finally in 1846 with the character as a major general from his position. In 1847 he joined the army officers à la suite .

In 1853 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with a star .
