Joseph Wishy
Joseph R. Wishy (born January 13, 1934 in New York City , New York , † July 3, 1993 in the Bronx ) was an American film producer .
Life
Wishy first attended Columbia College, then studied at the University of Oxford in England . He made further studies in East Berlin with Walter Felsenstein and with Giorgio Strehler at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan . In the 1950s he worked as an assistant to Samuel Chotzinoff . In the 1960s he produced two musicals on Broadway . In 1978 Wishy staged the ballet Sinfonietta . For this he engaged Jiří Kylián for the choreography to the music of Leoš Janáček . In 1983, Wishy was nominated for an Oscar for the documentary A Portrait of Giselle about 19th century ballerinas .
Wishy died of amoebic dysentery in a hospital in the Bronx .
