Joshua Compston

Joshua Richard Compston (born June 1, 1970 in Putney , London Borough of Wandsworth , England , † March 5, 1996 in London , England) was an English gallery owner .

Life

Compston was the son of a judge. He attended St. Edward's School (Oxford) before going to London's Courtauld Institute of Art . There he completed his studies in 1992 and founded his gallery, Factual Nonsense. This was in Hoxton in the East End of London on Charlotte Road.

Some of the Young British Artists , including Tracey Emin, were among the artists at Galerie Compstons . He held an annual artist festival in Hoxton Square. He died of an ether overdose . Several hundred of the most important representatives of the London art scene of the day attended his funeral. His coffin had been painted by his artist friends Gary Hume and Gavin Turk .
