The London Borough of Hackney [ ˈhækni ] is a borough of London . It is located northeast of the city center. When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, it emerged from the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney , the Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch and the Metropolitan Borough of Stoke Newington in the former County of London .

The population in 2008 was composed of 61.8% white, 9.6% Asian, 20.9% black and 1.4% Chinese.

There are partnerships with the district of Göttingen (broken off by Hackney for financial reasons in 2005), with the city of Haifa in Israel and with Bridgetown , the capital of Barbados .

Public transport

Hackney has access to only one tube station, Manor House ( Piccadilly Line ). Old Street Station ( Northern Line ) in Islington is just across the southwest boundary of Borroughs. Hackney is also connected to the London Overground network with the North London Line and the East London Line . These stop at four stations each in Hackney.

A number of National Rail lines also run through Hackney. Lea Valley Lines run from Liverpool Street Station to Chingford , Cheshunt or Enfield Town , stopping at Hackney up to five times. As of 2015, these lines will be operated by the London Overground . Trains to Hertford East stop at Hackney Downs Station. First Capital Connect also stops at Old Street Station on weekdays .
