Joshua Roman

Joshua Roman (born December 16, 1983 ) is an American cellist and composer.

Roman studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Richard Aaron and Desmond Hoebig . In 2006 he became principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony , with which he played the world premiere of David Stock's cello concerto as a soloist . 2008 he performed at New York's Mostly Mozart Festival with Benjamin Britten's on Third Cello Suite, in the following year as a guest of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall . In the 2009-10 season he made his debut as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and appeared with the symphony orchestras of Albany, Arkansas, Santa Barbara and Lexington.

As a chamber musician, Roman has worked with Earl Carlyss and Christian Zacharias , the Seattle Chamber Music Society and young musicians on the New York contemporary music scene such as Alarm Will Sound , So Percussion and the artists of the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center . In 2007 he became Artistic Director of TownMusic , an experimental chamber music series at Town Hall in Seattle. The piece On Grace was created in collaboration with actress Anna Deavere . He realized other projects with the composers Aaron Jay Kernis , Mason Bates and Dan Visconti, among others . His own compositions are inspired by sources such as the poetry of Tracy K. Smith and the musicians he writes for such as the JACK Quartet , violinist Vadim Gluzman and conductor David Danzmayr .
