Josias Poolmann

Josias Poolmann OSB (born January 10, 1687 in Otteler ; † October 7, 1742 ) was abbot of the Grafschaft monastery from 1730 to 1742 .

Life

Poolmann came from a Protestant family from Waldeck . However, he was raised Catholic in Schmallenberg , attended the Laurentianum grammar school in Arnsberg and in 1703 entered the Grafschaft monastery. He was confirmed by the auxiliary bishop of Cologne in 1704. In 1708 he was ordained a subdeacon , in 1709 a deacon and in 1711 a priest. A year later he was appointed novice master . In 1717 he had become a waiter . On September 12, 1712 the convent elected him abbot. At that time Michael Spanner built the new monastery church and the convent building. Therefore Josias Poolmann was considered a second donor of the monastery. At his own request, he was buried in the cloister corridor in front of the portal leading into the former church.
