Jossyp Jossypowytsch Kossonohow (born March 19 . Jul / 31 March  1866 greg. In kamensk-shakhtinsky , field of Donkosakenheeres , Russian Empire ; † 22. March 1922 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian physicist, geophysicist and meteorologist.

Life

Kossonohow graduated from St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1889 . After he defended his diploma thesis there in 1901, he was appointed associate professor for physics and after his doctorate in 1904 he became a full professor. At the university he became head of the physical laboratories and the meteorological observatory as well as the department of physical geography.

In 1922 he was elected an academician of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences . He died in Kiev that same year and was buried there in the Baikowe Cemetery .
