Joulia Strauss

Joulia Strauss ( Russian Юлия Страусова / Joulia Straussowa ; * 1974 in Leningrad ) is a sculptor , media and performance artist . It combines art, science, technology and politics.

biography

Strauss studied from 1993 to 1995 at the New Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg with Timur Novikow and graduated with a diploma. At the Berlin University of the Arts (1995–2000) she entered the master class of Georg Baselitz and was awarded the President's Prize.

As a student, she made a significant contribution to the artistic direction of neo-academism . From 2000 to 2005 she worked at art science, a private place to promote the coming together of art and science (numerous lectures and exhibitions, with Alexander Wahrlich). At the same time, Strauss was a lecturer at the German Film School near Berlin and until 2007 - together with Manuel Bonik - on Reboot.fm and Twen.fm. From 2004 to 2009: Atelier festival / workshop party, changing exhibitions with young artists working in Berlin in the studio, with Martina Schumacher . From 2009 to 2013, together with Alexander Wahrlich and Sotirios Bahtsetzis Spree-Athen , she organized evenings for protagonists from the fields of art, philosophy and media theory in Berlin and Athens .

Joulia Strauss lives and works in Berlin .
