Jouni Järvelä (born June 11, 1973 in Imatra ) is a Finnish jazz musician ( soprano and alto saxophone , clarinet , also C melody and tenor saxophone , composition ).

Act

Järvelä is best known for his work in the big band UMO Jazz Orchestra . In 1992, when he was 19 years old, he played in this formation for the first time. In 1995 he was elected a permanent member of the orchestra, in which he is currently the first alto saxophonist and has emerged as a soloist.

With his own band, which he founded in 1996, he released his debut album Lento in 1999, which was nominated for the Finnish Emma Prize . In 2007 the album A Grand Day Out (live) followed with the Norwegian drummer Audun Kleive as a guest. Järvelä composed most of the band's music.

Järvelä has continued to play in the Imatra Big Band , Flora et Labora, Kari Ikonen & Karikko and the Teemu Eronen quintet. He also worked a lot with Lenny Pickett . The Kurd Marouf Majidi brought him into his Ma Rouf quartet .
