Juan Alberto Taverna

Juan Alberto Taverna (born April 13, 1948 in Veinticinco de Mayo , † November 7, 2014 ) was an Argentine football player .

The striker began his career at Estudiantes de La Plata . He won with the club coached by Osvaldo Zubeldía the Copa Libertadores in 1968, 1969 and 1970 and the World Cup in 1968, where he was not used. In the finals for the World Cup in 1969 and 1970, Estudiantes lost to AC Milan and Feyenoord Rotterdam . In 1972 he moved to CA Banfield . In 1973/74 he played for Real Murcia in the Spanish Primera División .

He then returned to Banfield and set a league record in the 13-1 win over Puerto Comercial with seven goals. In 1975, however, he passed a positive doping test and was banned for one year. It was the first official doping case in Argentine football. He then went to the Boca Juniors , with whom he became Argentine champion in 1976. From 1977 he was under contract with Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata , where he ended his career in 1981.
