Juan Carreño

Juan Carreño (born August 14, 1909 in Mexico City , † December 16, 1940 ibid), nicknamed "El Trompito", was a Mexican football player who acted in the position of the striker . He is considered one of the best Mexican players ever and was an idol of the masses in his day. As Mexico's first goalscorer at both the Olympic Games ( 1928 ) and a World Cup ( 1930 ), he went down twice in the annals of Mexican football history : in Amsterdam on May 30, 1928, he scored the only one in the 80th minute Goal in the 1: 7 against Spain and in Montevideo on July 13, 1930 in the 70th minute the only goal in the 1: 4 against France.

biography

Juan Carreño was born in Corrito, a neglected neighborhood of the Mexican capital. With the soccer sport he started at the Club Tigres ; a club that participated in the capital league between 1917 and 1920 . From there he moved to the company soccer team at the "La Sedanita" factory, which a short time later received the offer to work for Atlante.

So Carreño came to CF Atlante in 1927 to strengthen the team in a friendly against the Chilean club Colo-Colo . He played his first league game for Atlante against Necaxa (2-2) in the 1927/28 season. For most of his career he played for Atlante, later moving to CF Asturias, and died of appendicitis in 1940 at the age of 31 .
