Juan Díaz Fleming

Juan Díaz Fleming (born  December 29, 1937 in Los Andes , Chile ) is a Chilean sculptor . In his work he focuses on creating oversized sculptures and ceramic works .

Life

Díaz Fleming studied at the Universidad de Chile with a focus on sculpture in the Department of Fine Arts. He finished his education with a degree from the Department of Applied Arts with the title of Ceramist. He got his first job in the training center of the Chilean Ministry of Education as a teacher for plastic arts. In 1983, he stayed in Taiwan for three months as a government scholarship holder to conduct advanced training in ceramic engineering. Another stay abroad took him to Spain in 1988 , to the Complutense University of Madrid . The following year he participated in the Assembly of Latin American Ceramic Artists (“Encuentro Latinoamericano de Cerámica Artística”) inCordoba , Argentina . He is currently Full Professor at the University of Tarapacá in Arica . He holds the chair of sculpture and directs the talent school for plastic work of the Arica Cultural Association.

Díaz Fleming is the author of several monumental desert sculptures entitled “ Presencias Tutelares ”. He created other works of a similar format in Concepción (“Rucapillán”) and in Copiapó (“Atacama”). Works by Díaz Fleming can be found in the Museums of Art in Valparaíso , the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile , the Complutense University in Madrid , the Museum of Modern Art of the University of Santa Catalina in Florianópolis , Brazil , and museums in Peru and Ecuador .
