Juan José Guzman

Juan José Guzmán (* July 1797 in San Carlos in the Distrito de Gotera ( San Francisco Gotera , today Morazán ), then La Unión ; † October 19, 1847 in San Vicente ) was president of from April 12, 1842 to February 1, 1844 El Salvador. On the occasion of his assumption of office on September 26, 1842, elections were held, before he ruled as an executive.

Life

He was a soldier and belonged to the Partido Conservador . Juan José Guzmán was one of the presidents, who are counted among the puppets of Francisco Malespín , who in the background directed the fate of the Partido Conservador . On April 12, 1842 José Escolastico Marín gave him the presidency. José Escolástico Marín had been entrusted with the office of Dionisio Villacorta. This Dionisio Villacorta gave Juan José Guzmán the office on June 30, 1842 to be elected. At a Congreso Nacional on January 27, 1842 elections were called in El Salvador. In the first direct presidential election, no candidate received an absolute majority, so Coronel Antonio José Cañas was declared president. However, this did not take his office, so it got Juan José Guzmán.

1842 Confederación de Centroamérica

During his reign, José Francisco Morazán Quezada of the Partido Liberal returned from exile. Morazán became president of Costa Rica. Juan José Guzmán then broke off diplomatic relations with Costa Rica and in 1842 formed the Confederación de Centroamérica with the governments of the Partido Conservador Francisco Ferrera in Honduras and Pablo Sánchez de Buitrago y Benavente in Nicaragua .

After his presidency, Juan José Guzmán lived in San Vicente, where he was murdered.
