Morazán is one of 14 departments in El Salvador and is located in the northeast of the country on the border with Honduras .

The capital of the department is San Francisco Gotera . The department takes its name from the former President of the Central American Confederation, José Francisco Morazán Quezada . Morazán was founded on July 14, 1875.

The Museo de la Revolución , which commemorates the civil war in El Salvador, is located in Perquín in the Morazán department .

The Cueva del Espíritu Santo cave is a national monument.
