Juan Manuel Asensi Ripoll (born September 23, 1949 in Alicante ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

Asensi began his career at Elche FC , where he spent four years of his career. In 1970 he moved to FC Barcelona , where he experienced his most successful period. He won a Spanish championship title and two Spanish cups. In addition, he won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1979 . Asensi played through in the final against Fortuna Düsseldorf . He finally ended his career in Mexico from 1981 to 1983.

Juan Manuel Asensi was part of the Spanish squad at the 1968 Olympic Games , where his team reached the quarter-finals. He also played 41 times for the Spanish senior team and scored seven goals. He took part in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina (Spain eliminated in the group stage) and the 1980 European Championship in Italy (also eliminated in the group stage).
