description

Juanulloa parasitica is a semi-shrub-like, hairless epiphyte that often forms many branches with little or no branching. The younger branches are angular and purple in color. The leaf stalks are 1.5 to 3 cm long, often bent at the base, the leaves are alternate or almost in pairs. They are elongated-elliptical or almost inversely ovate or lanceolate, with entire margins or with a slightly curved edge. They are shiny, when they dry they become translucent, leathery, spotted and a little paler on the underside, the nerve consists of five to eight non-protruding main nerves. The base is pointed and pointed. The size of the leaves is usually 10 to 15 cm, the width 5 to 7 cm.

The racemose inflorescences sometimes branch dichotomously , are more or less pendulous and up to 15 cm long. The purple inflorescence stalk and the 6 to 12 mm long flower stalks are round. The orange calyx is fleshy, egg-shaped, initially about 2 cm, later 4 cm long and 2 cm wide. The unevenly shaped, linear, elongated calyx tips are tapered and more and more separated with age. The crown is inflated and bulbous, 8 mm wide at the thickest point and only 6 mm at the base. The coronet is 1 mm wide, the rounded or almost pointed corolla lobes are about 4 cm long. The stamens are about 8 to 10 mm long and densely hairy at the base. The anthers are of the same shape, about 8 mm long. The ovary is oval-round and is located on a small-bulged disc.

The fruit is a 2.5 cm long, almost 2 cm wide berry . The purple colored seeds are surrounded by a shiny pulp.
