Judentanzhaus (Rothenburg ob der Tauber)
The former Jewish dance house in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , a town in the Central Franconian district of Ansbach in Bavaria , was rebuilt after it was destroyed in 1945. The half-timbered house at Georgengasse 17 is a protected architectural monument .
history
In Rothenburg ob der Tauber there was already a Jewish tantz house within the older wall ring before the pogrom of 1298 . For example, it was mentioned in 1353 in a document from the later emperor Charles IV . The second and third Jewish settlements in Judengasse also had such a building.
The dance house, rebuilt as a half-timbered building in Renaissance style, was built in 1613 on the foundation walls of the former Jewish hostel by the von Winterbach patrician family .
