Judit Bar-Ilan

Judit Bar-Ilan (* 1958 ; † July 16, 2019 ) was an Israeli information scientist who dealt in particular with bibliometrics .

Life

Bar-Ilan studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , where she received her bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science in 1981, her master's degree in mathematics in 1983 and her doctorate in 1990 with Michael O. Rabin and Michael Ben-Or .

She was then a postdoc at the Weizmann Institute for Science and lecturer at the University of Haifa . She then returned to the Hebrew University, where she was a lecturer until 2005. In 2006 she moved to the religious-Zionist Bar-Ilan University as a professor in information science.

In number 3, volume 123 (2020) of Scientometrics magazine , some articles are specifically dedicated to her memory.

Memberships

Bar-Ilan was a member of numerous international associations, including the Association for Computing Machinery , the American Society for Information Science and Technology and the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics . She has edited various journals, including Scientometrics, Cybermetrics and the Journal of Informetrics.

Awards

She won various awards for her scientific work. The Derek John de Solla Price Award , which she received in 2017 for outstanding achievements in quantitative science research, deserves special mention .
