Judith Simon
Judith Simon (* 1977) is a German philosopher . She conducts research on epistemological and ethical questions that arise in connection with digitization as a social phenomenon. Since February 2017 she has been Professor of Ethics in Information Technology at the University of Hamburg .
Life
Judith Simon completed her studies in psychology , which she had started in Marburg , in 2002 at the Free University of Berlin with a master's degree and then worked independently in software development in the usability area .
From 2003 to 2014 she worked as a research assistant in various research groups at Forschungszentrum Jülich , the University of Vienna , the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology , the Institut Jean Nicod ( Ecole Normale Supérieure ) in Paris and as a guest at Stanford University and the Universities of Trento, Barcelona and Ljubljana . This was followed by a lectureship at the University of Copenhagen and another job in Vienna. There she received her PhD in philosophy in 2010.
In February 2017 Judith Simon was appointed to the chair for ethics in information technology at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Hamburg, where she is involved in the research focus "Human-Centered Computing (HCC)". It is the first chair for ethics in information technology at a German computer science institute. She says of herself that her research approach is influenced by epistemological, technical, computer-ethical and feminist approaches.
Judith Simon has been a member of the Data Ethics Commission and the German Ethics Council since July 2018 .
Judith Simon is co-editor of the journals Philosophy & Technology and Big Data & Society . She is involved in the Open Library of Humanities and the Philosophy, Technology and Society book series published by Rowman & Littlefield International.
