Judith Steinbacher

Judith Steinbacher (* 1946 in Altenmarkt an der Alz as Judith Rittlinger ) is a German graphic artist and children's book author .

Judith Steinbacher was born as the daughter of the travel writer Herbert Rittlinger and his wife Marianne in Altenmarkt an der Alz . She grew up in Seeon am Weinberg near the Seeon Abbey . She attended grammar school in Traunstein and spent a year as a guest student at the German School in Rome . She then passed her Abitur in Landshut and did a one and a half year internship at the Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt in Stuttgart .

She studied eight semesters at the Academy for the Graphic Arts Munich and started her own business in 1972. Between 1974 and 1988 she designed around 500 children's posters for the kindergarten specialist publisher.

Since 1974 she has created around 40 picture books for children, for which she usually wrote not only the pictures but also the texts. In addition, she has published two volumes of caricatures.

Judith Steinbacher is married to Gernot Steinbacher and has two grown sons. She lives in Munich.
