The youth hall Heisingen is a sports hall built in 1914 in Art Nouveau style and placed under monument protection in 1990 , which is located in the Essen district of Heisingen .

history

The construction management was carried out by the Bredeney architect Wilhelm Rümke, who previously built the Heisingen town hall. Rümke was born on July 22, 1881 in Duderstadt , studied at the building trade school in Zerbst / Anhalt and moved to Bredeney in 1904, where he died on December 9, 1955. The first mayor of Heisingen, Emil Hagmann , Heisingen was self-employed from 1910 to 1929 and was an advocate for the architect.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the youth hall took place on June 22, 1913. During the First World War , on October 30, 1914, the hall, which cost around 33,000  marks, was inaugurated.

During the war, in May 1918 , a German Zeppelin (Staaken) R.VI military aircraft crashed on the Ruhr Heights on Wuppertaler Strasse . Seven crew members were killed and more than 2500 mourners appeared in the hall to lay them out. There is an aviator memorial near the crash site.

The youth hall with a concrete frame construction is covered on the central part of the hall with a raised hipped roof. Parts of the building with pent roofs are adjacent. The entrance area is formed by a barrel-roofed building with a relief frame. With its Art Nouveau elements, the hall, like many other buildings from the time of the independent Mayor's office in Heisingen, reflected a certain civic pride. It not only served as a space for young people, who could let their urge to move around here in bad weather, but was also once used for boxing events and other social activities. It suffered no serious damage in either of the two wars. Today it is available for school sports and is home to the sports community (SG) Heisingen. In 2006 it was renovated inside and out with an investment of 300,000 euros.

On September 13, 1990 the hall was added to the list of monuments of the city of Essen.
