She has been working as a translator from French into German and vice versa since the 1980s , sometimes under the pseudonym Irène de Font-Verger, inspired by her farm Font-Verger, where she has lived since 1983. As the author of her own works, some of which are bilingual, and as a translator, she has published numerous books since 1980, translating around 130 mostly from French, occasionally from English into German, and often from German into French. This includes works by important authors such as Georges Simenon , Henri Troyat , Marcel Pagnol , Anaïs Nin , Eugène Ionesco , Jean Piaget , Charles Baudelaire, Pierre Magnan , Benoîte Groult and Julien Green . She is also editor of the German edition of the complete works of Eugène Ionesco and co-translator of the plays of Heinrich von Kleist .

Irène Kuhn married the Austrian actor Werner Kreindl, whose third wife she was. After Kreindl's death in 1992 she married the publisher Jürgen Kreuzhage , with whom she lives in Provence . She is a member of the Association of German Writers (VS), the Association des Traducteurs Littéraires de France (ATLF) and ATLAS, a management consultancy for prospective translators.
