Jules-Frédéric Ballavoine (born August 29, 1842 in Paris , † February 3, 1914 in Asnières-sur-Seine ) was a French portrait, nude and genre painter.

Art historians argue about the date of birth of Jules-Frédéric Ballavoine. The year of birth of 1855 given by many sources is unlikely, since the young artist made his debut at the Salon de Paris in 1865 with the painting "An Angry Duck". The year of birth assumed in this article is 1842, according to credible sources. a. confirmed by the German National Library and the Library of Congress .

Ballavoine entered the class of Isidore Pils at the École des beaux-arts de Paris in 1863 .

From 1865 to 1911 he exhibited his works every year in the Salon de Paris . He signed all of his works “J. Ballavoine ”. In his studios he taught students a. a. Henri Julien Dumont .

An unknown Russian nobleman ordered a large-format painting from Ballavoine in 1871 depicting the dream he had experienced. The picture, which appeared at the Paris Salon the next year, brought the artist 20,000 gold francs.

At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1878 he received an honorable mention for a picture depicting a family having lunch outside with a view of the Paris panorama.

From 1879 he was invited to the prestigious dinner of the Parisian art elite, which took place on the 22nd of each month in the restaurant Le Brébant.
