Jules Adolphe Goupil
Jules Adolphe Goupil (born May 7, 1839 in Paris , † April 28, 1883 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French portrait and genre painter .
Jules Adolphe Goupil was born to Marie-Élisabeth Havard and Pierre-Charles Goupil. He had an older brother, also a painter, Léon-Lucien Goupil (1834-1891).
Goupil studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris with Ary Scheffer and Florent Willems .
In 1857 he made his debut at the Salon de Paris with his self-portrait. He won prizes in 1873, 1874, 1875 and 1878. He also exhibited in salons in Brussels and Munich .
In January 1881 he was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor by the Ministry of Fine Arts . In the same year a number of his etchings were published by Alfred Cadart's widow.
He died at the age of 43 while traveling back from Nice.
