Jules Lunteschütz , actually Isaak Lunteschütz (* 1822 in Besançon ; † March 20, 1893 in Frankfurt / Main ) was a Franco-German painter.

Life

Lunteschütz was a student of the "École de dessin Besançon". Since 1837 Philipp Veit was one of his teachers , with whom he was trained in Frankfurt am Main. From 1838 he attended the " École des Beaux-Arts " in Paris and learned from Jean Alaux . From 1845 he lived in Frankfurt am Main. He is best known for his portraits of Arthur Schopenhauer , with whom he was friends. A portrait of the painter by Gustave Courbet hangs in the Städel in Frankfurt / Main.
